HIGH SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM MOVES FORWARD
With $1.93 million in support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Institute for Teaching launched the initial recruitment phase of the High School Outreach Program early this year, with remarkable response from high schools in CTA’s Region 2 and in Region 3—where four of the first schools have been selected to participate in the first phase of the program.

IFT ANNOUNCES NEW COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
The CTA Institute for Teaching is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Sacramento-based Parent/Teacher Home Visit Project. Using a successful model of home visits to build parent engagement in schools, as well as trust and respect among parents and teachers, the Parent/Teacher Home Visit Project (HVP) was originally founded as a joint effort of the Sacramento Area Congregations Together (ACT), a local affiliate of the Pacific Institute for Community Organizations (PICO), and the Sacramento City Teachers Association.

EVALUATION: BUILDING A FRAMEWORK FOR SUCCESS
Since Katherine McKnight, Ph.D., began working with the California Teacher’s Association on program evaluation in 2000, she has become increasingly interested in the process of school reform. Dr. McKnight, a clinical psychologist and program evaluator from the University of Arizona’s Evaluation Group for the Analysis of Data (EGAD), is currently engaged as the primary evaluator for CTA’s Institute for Teaching High School Outreach Program.

BUILDING RESOURCES FOR THE SCHOOLS OF GREATEST NEED
This past April, CTA’s Institute for Teaching set a new high in dollars generated through the Staples Recycle for Education Program, bringing in nearly $25,000 during the month. By donating $1 to the Schools of Greatest Need Initiative (SGNI) for every eligible ink and toner cartridge recycled at a California Staples store, this program has earned more than $397,932 for the SGNI and raised awareness of the IFT’s work throughout the state.
