Effective May 1st the Student California Teachers Association officially moved from the Communications Department of CTA to the Human Rights Department. The change is something that was thought about for some time and finally it happened.
The benefits of moving SCTA over to Human Rights are enormous. Gail Watts, SCTA statewide coordinator and veteran of CTA, was chosen out of a large candidate pool and has already proven that she is up for the challenge of this very busy organization. The Human Rights Department organizes various workshops and speakers that range from high risk youth issues, boosting local involvement with SCTA and CTA, to diversity and leadership training. Having these contacts closer to the metaphoric SCTA home makes conferences and event planning a whole lot easier. The Human Rights Department is very excited to have this program and is willing to pump all the resources it can into it.
Okay, so what do you need to know about the change? First, the SCTA office has moved from Santa Fe Springs to Burlingame so any phone calls, letters or requests must go there. Second our staff and support staff have changed. Our new Frank Caso is Gail Watts, and our new Mona is Carol Tom, and they can be reached at the CTA Headquarters office in Burlingame at (650) 697-1400. Other than that there really is no difference. All of the great benefits that you get as an SCTA member are the same.
So let us all embrace this change - it has been a super smooth transition. Thank you Gail and the Human Rights Department for taking us under your wing.
