From Our First Lady

Hello! I'm LaShay Roberts your Student California Teachers Association President for the 2001-2002 year. I am a current credential candidate at Sonoma State University and I am very excited to be serving on the SCTA Executive Board for the upcoming year. I hope that you are getting off to a great start this Fall. This is just the beginning of so many things, the start of a new semester/ quarter and your newly elected SCTA Executive Board takes office.

This past May during the 2000-2001 Representative Assembly, SCTA delegates elected 14 outstanding individual to serve as your SCTA Executive Board officers. This is a team complete with energetic and responsible students who will serve each of our members through the implementation of polices, coordinating conferences and workshops, and much more - all in the interest of establishing active chapters and building our association.

As president my task is to represent SCTA at the national, state and local levels. I am responsible for the process and work of our association. I will be contacting chapters as well as individuals on a continual basis to see if I can be of assistance to them. For those of you who do not have active chapters, please feel free to contact me so we can begin the process of starting a chapter on your campus.

Feel free to contact anyone on the Executive Board whether you have questions, comments, concerns, or just want to brag about your wonderful SCTA chapter. We are here to listen to and assist you in any way possible. As an Executive Board we are also available for visitations to your campus to provide support and assistance to your chapter.

There will be some wonderful things happening in SCTA this year, like our Fall Leadership Conference, Northern and Southern Regional Conferences, Membership Madness and many local workshops and activities. I am encouraging all members and chapters to get active and involved in the efforts to strengthen our association. I hope to see many of you at these activities. Further details will follow in the upcoming months.

In closing, I hope that you will have a fantastic semester of classes and/or student teaching. I look forward to talking to you soon and meeting you at SCTA sponsored events. I hope you will begin making a difference in the association by volunteering your time and getting others involved in SCTA efforts and activities. See you there!

Sincerely,
LaShay Roberts, SCTA President
