The time is now! With the November 5 elections just a few weeks away, I urge you to take the necessary steps to get your local SCTA members registered to vote. This election brings with it the opportunity to "build for the future" for public schools in California by electing pro-education candidates as well as supporting measures such as Prop. 47 that will have a lasting impact on education. Let your voices be heard by making sure that we are casting votes and shaping the future of our profession.
As an SCTA member, we are offered many benefits and opportunities to network. Make plans to attend the Fall Leadership Conference, November 16-17. This year's theme is "Education: It's What We Make It." The conference will provide professional development workshops, a teacher panel and dynamic guest speakers such as CTA President Wayne Johnson and NEA-Student Program Chairperson, Dawn Shephard. This is one event you will not want to miss!
Chapter Leaders! There is a new section of the website just for you! Go to Chapter Leaders so you can stay connected and up to date. This addition offers resources on various topics: Starting a New Chapter, Planning Calendar, Effective Meeting Tips, Chapter Activities & Events, How to Plan a Workshop or Mini-conference, Hook Up! Create Partnerships, and Funding Sources. SCTA Award Nomination forms will be added soon. All of the links provide important information to members, so check out the web site and let us know what you think.
Remember, the Executive Board Officers are here to assist you in creating strong chapters, so anytime you would like to have a visitation or presentation from one of the Executive Board members, feel free to contact us. We enjoy visiting the different campuses and providing assistance.
Take the time to make a difference in your future and the future of education. Remember to Vote!
LaShay Roberts, SCTA President
