Hey everyone! Hope the start of your school year is going well. The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) recently kicked off the year with their first meeting. Here are some important highlights.
- Online credential renewals will now be available through the CCTCís website http://www.ctc.ca.gov/.
- CCTC amended the California Code of Regulation to change the requirements for the administrative services credential. Now any district or school can create their own administrative services credential program if it meets the CCTCís standards. (Basically, they are making it easier to become an administrator, and harder to become a teacher.)
- The Master Plan of Education is essentially finished. It should be ready to look through by next month. You can find it in draft form at the California Department of Education's website http://www.cde.ca.gov/
- The CCTC's own lawyer looked at the "No Child Left Behind" Act/ESEA, and concluded that it would require veteran teachers to pay for and take a test in order to keep their jobs. Alan Bersin (Chair) and Sam Swofford (Executive Director) both felt this was an incorrect interpretation of ESEA and suggested that California teachers not "get too worked up" over this issue. This is something that I'll definitely be keeping you up to date on.
- The new Teacher Performance Assessment standards were adopted (these include specific tests, goals, and long-term timelines).
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments about the CCTC I'd love to hear from you, please email me at sak19@humboldt.edu. Please realize that I'm usually the only student at these meetings, so if you want your concern voiced please contact me.
