Hello Future Educators! I have come across a wonderful catalog full of books, videos and CD ROMs called Teaching For Change. This catalog is awesome for future and present educators who are looking for multicultural education resources.
Did you know that September was Hispanic Heritage month in California? A great video for September (or any month) is Viva La Cause: 500 Years of Chicano History. This video will most definitely get your 5th -12th grade and higher students attention by its lively music ranging from corridos to rap, and photos that will create a compelling introduction to Mexican American history. This video can be ordered from the Teaching for Change catalog.
A manual that can also be ordered from this catalog is Tackling Gay Issues in School. This manual by Lief Mitchell, CT GLSEN and CT Planned Parenthood is designed for teachers, administrators, students and parents. This manual is designed to help you work toward the common goal of ending homophobia in schools.
Another listing is the book, I see the Rhythm. This book by Toyomi Igus and Michele Wood is beautifully illustrated and takes us on a journey through time and history, beginning with the roots of music in Africa and continuing on to contemporary hip hop. This book can be a great addition to your classroom library to capture the history of African American music.
This catalog is full of more great books, videos, and CD ROMs. Its content is very diverse covering subjects such as science, music, math, language diversity, children's literature, anti-violence, and many more. If you would like to receive this catalog you can call 1-800-763-9131 or 202-429-0137. You can also check out the catalog at http://www.teachingforchange.org/.
