GOD BLESS AMERICA
As SCTA members we must take this time to remember those who have passed in the events of September 11, 2001. We send our prayers to those who have lost loved ones and to those who are still searching for missing family members and friends. Our prayer continues to echo to each of the brave individuals who we identify as heroes, those who have lost their lives in order to save others.
With the recent tragic events of September 11 and the aftermath I would like for us as SCTA members to remember those who have confronted these events head on. We send our condolences and our prayers to all Americans. We must remember as Americans, that our way of life has been altered forever. This alteration may perhaps be for the positive as we ponder the days to come. As Americans may we find comfort and strength in our faith and through the spirits of others. Take this time and begin to prepare for the future.
As future educators, consider this event as an opportunity to examine how we present this tragedy to our students. Many of us are student teaching and are already in the classroom dealing with these issues. For some of us, we have to take this time and truly consider how we will discuss these events once we are in the classroom. We must figure out the best methods to teach the children of America to continue to be strong and believe in our nation.
Take this time to remember what being an American is all about. With each of your thoughts, constantly remind yourself that America is the land of free and the home of the brave. Moreover, continue to reach out to the students and continue to prepare for the future that is yet to come.
The future is what we make it! There are many avenues for us to take in assisting our fellow Americans. Contact your local Red Cross and other organizations to find out how you can lend a hand. Winston Churchill once said, "the empires of the future are the empires of the mind." With our minds, we shape the future. Remember to make a difference everyday, and understand that our actions will truly have a direct effect on our tomorrow.
I hope this issue of "I Choose to Teach" will offer you some peace of mind as we continue to face new horizons. I will close for now, and if there is anything, I can do please feel free to contact me via email or telephone. Take care of yourselves and continue to prepare for the future and be strong as each new day arrives.
LaShay Roberts,
SCTA President
