SCTA Representative Assembly
By Casey Hansen/Executive Vice President/San Diego State University

Do you have issues with the Student California Teachers Association and its leadership? Stop talking about it and participate in change by going to the Representative Assembly April 6th and 7th at the Westin Hotel at the San Francisco Airport. This year's RA theme is "Get Your Teach On: A New Generation of Pre-Professionals." The weekend will consist of SCTA members voting on proposed changes to the SCTA constitution as well as electing a new Executive Board. Positions that are open for election are: President, Executive Vice-President, the Southern and Northern Regional Vice Presidents (2 each), Ethnic Minority Representatives (2 positions), Secretary Treasurer, and Communications Editor.

The number of SCTA members at each school determines the number of voting delegates that can be sent to RA. Each campus receives one voting delegate for having one member on your campus, and one additional vote per 30 members. (For example, 1-29 members gets 1 delegate, 30-59 members gets 2 delegates, etc.) Additionally each school will be able to send 2 non-voting "observers" to RA. These participants will be able to run for office and participate in all other conference activities, but they will be unable to vote in the elections and on proposed constitutional changes.

All expenses will be paid (except conference registration) which includes transportation, hotel and food. So come one, come all! Make positive change to your organization and participate in the 2002 Representative Assembly. If there are any questions regarding RA, contact Casey Hansen at Casey@studentcta.org or by phone at 619/582-7416.
