SCTA Northern Regional Conference
By Seth Klempner/Northern Vice President/Humboldt State University

This year's Northern Regional Conference was held at Sonoma State University on February 9, 2002. The good weather in Rohnert Park set the tone for what turned out to be a fantastic conference.

SCTA chapters from all over the northern region were in attendance, including Humboldt State, UC Davis, CSU Hayward, Chabot College, Stanford University, CSU Stanislaus, etc. All in all, 16 campuses were represented. This year's theme was "Learning From Each Other, One Step at a Time" and events included workshops, a student panel, and a wonderful motivational speaker. Also, a book drive was held to benefit Sheppard Elementary in Santa Rosa. Eighty-one (81) books were donated in total!

Workshops covered many different topics ranging from an introduction to CTA/new teacher rights to a workshop dealing with difficult behaviors. The special education presenters and the children's literature workshop proved to be very popular too. Also, the conference included a presenter from the Project Pipeline Teacher Recruitment Center.. After a very tasty lunch, participants enjoyed a student panel which included students in their credential year, new teachers and experienced teachers.

Finally the day closed with some great words of wisdom from Lynette Henley, a teacher from the Vallejo area and member of the CTA Board of Directors. Her passion for teaching and terrific sense of humor were definitely enjoyed by all. Everyone seemed to have learned a great deal and also made new friends in the process. Thanks a million to everyone who attended and helped!
