CSU Channel Islands: There From the Start
By Sigifredo Cruz - President of Tomorrow's Teachers at CSU Channel Islands
CSU Channel Islands is the newest campus of the California State University system and it is home to a new SCTA local chapter, Tomorrow's Teachers. Cal State Channel Islands opened its doors in the fall 2002 and before midterms were over Tomorrow's Teachers was already formed and active on campus.

During our inaugural semester we held a successful book drive, collecting over 300 books. On November 1st, we delivered the books to Rio Rosales Elementary School in Oxnard. We spent two hours at the school reading to various classes of different grade levels. We also participated in our campus' first annual Halloween bash and held a successful two-day bake sale.

We have weekly Executive Board meetings and have had three general meetings for students. These meetings included two informational meetings and one on the C-BEST, C-SET and RICA tests. On three separate occasions we have hosted tables in the campus courtyard recruiting new members.

There were four members from our chapter who were fortunate enough to attend the Fall Leadership Conference, November 16-17, including President Sigifredo Cruz, Vice-President Angelina Ortega, Editor Elizabeth Cherry and Secretary Carrie Oxender. We were very inspired by the teacher panel and plan to invite local teachers from various grade levels to our school to have our own teacher panel for students.
We are proud to be a part of SCTA and are looking forward to growing along with our new campus.
