The SCTA Fall Leadership Conference, "Those Who Dare to Excel!" was a success! Over 100 SCTA members from 29 college campuses participated in the conference, November 17-18 at the Renaissance Hotel, Los Angeles.
"I had lots of fun and learned so much from everyone. I started my chapter without much knowledge of the SCTA and now when I go home I will have a much better understanding of how everything works. Thanks!," comments one participant. 94% of participants rated the conference "excellent" or "good."
The Fall Leadership conference provides leadership training and a variety of information about SCTA and CTA for participants to take back to their campuses. The General Session on Saturday included the "Journey to Respect" video about the history of CTA. (This video is available for "check-out" by SCTA chapters). Workshops included:
SCTA: Building Strong Chapters
Self Esteem
Stressed? Can't Say No?!
How to Get Your First Teaching Job
What's Your Style? (Assertive Behavior & Effective Communication)
Another participant noted, "The workshops were really good and helpful. Also, the speakers were very inspiring and made their workshops interesting."
We were fortunate to have Christie Morrison, Chair of the NEA Student Program, provide the keynote speech at dinner. On Sunday, participants had an opportunity to meet in regional meetings to share ideas. "I really enjoyed this year's SCTA conference. Getting to meet people with your same goals, but at different stages so you can get advice on your options," commented a participant.
