State Council Representative Report - July 2002

By Shauna Aragon - State Council Representative - West Valley Community College

Lend me your ideas:

I am one of your newly elected CTA State Council Representatives. Future issues of this newsletter section will cover issues of the committee to which I am assigned and current issues at CTA State Council. Since I have not been assigned a committee yet, I thought I'd conduct a survey. In order to best represent each and everyone of you at the CTA State Council I need to know what concerns and issues are important to you. What are your views on current legislation and issues affecting student teachers? Please email me at shauna_aragon@westvalley.edu to let me know your issues, needs and concerns.

The Master Plan:

One issue that was discussed and seemed important at the last CTA State Council meeting is California's "Master Plan for Education" for K-12. This plan will impact curriculum, testing, and accountability of teachers. Please take the time and read this "Master Plan" that will greatly impact our lives as future teachers. Now is the time to critique, lobby, and demand changes. Please e-mail me with your view points so I can adequately represent you at the next CTA State Council meeting. To find your local legislator or representative to lobby about the Master Plan visit the website: http://www.lwv.org/voter/.
