California's Master Plan

By Julie C.D. Meyer-Houston - CTA State Council Representative - Sonoma State University

On July 2, 2002 three members of the CTA testified before the Joint Committee to Develop a Master Plan for Education, Kindergarten through the University. SCTA's Julie Meyer-Houston focused on the issues concerning client-sensitivity, making the entire system user-friendly for students at all levels. Meyer-Houston strongly suggested (1) a better system of matriculation, which should include the hiring of more counselors and the transferability of courses-thus, eliminating the need for repeating courses at different schools and programs-and (2) the need of due process rights for probationary teachers to be included into the Master Plan.

The two others who testified are teachers, Larry Terrill and Tom Rogers. They are also part of CTA's Liaison Program. Terrill's testimony focused on compensation issues while Rogers' concluded with the absolute need for collaboration amongst everyone involved in public education.

SCTA needs your political action! Because CTA believes so strongly in these issues, please remember to inform your colleagues and community about the three C's: Client-sensitivity, Compensation, and Collaboration.
