Welcome back, Student California Teachers Association members! We begin another exciting year and it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you our newly elected Executive Board members. Elected in April at our annual Representative Assembly, these individuals all bring some very unique qualities to our association. I have confidence that along with this Executive Board and the leadership skills each member brings, we as an association will continue to pave the way toward our future professions in education.

There is so much in store for us this year. We will continue to focus on Teacher Quality, by providing conferences, workshops and presentations to our members at the local, state, and national levels. We will continue to build relationships with the local CTA associations near our campuses and look to them for professional development opportunities, guest speakers, volunteer opportunities, leadership training and even job prospects.

SCTA is committed to providing Resources for our local chapters by assisting each local in planning, collaborating, networking, recruiting and retaining members. Members connect with CTA regional Service Centers to find support for sending students to state conferences and for resources as simple as making copies and long distance phone calls. Members link up with retired educators to find supportive mentors for pre-service members.

SCTA continues to examine the critical Political forces that shape our daily routines. We are on the forefront investigating the many policies and procedures that affect each of us as future educators. As an association, we engage in Community Outreach projects connecting us to our communities by hosting Read Across America events, book drives, and mentor programs.

This will be an extraordinary year for SCTA and I hope that you will engage in some of the numerous local, state and national events! If you were unable to be an active member last year at your local college or university, this is your chance to take advantage of the many opportunities that you have as an SCTA member.
