Caught In The Middle?

By Julie C.D. Meyer-Houston - CTA State Council Representative - Sonoma State University

If you are one of the many students who are in the midst of the changeover from the old to the new credentialing requirements, then be sure to check with your credential program advisor and contact the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to verify that you are taking the proper classes to pass the new standards. You can contact the CCTC at www.ctc.ca.gov, call them at (916) 322-6253 or fax them at (916) 445-0800.

Do you remember back in the April and June newsletters when I urged you to tell your credential program advisor about notifying the CCTC that you were continuously enrolled in a teacher preparation program and needed to be protected by Assembly Bill 1307? If you haven't done it yet, you must do so now!

AB 1307 pertains to candidates enrolled in commission-accredited credential programs including, internship programs, professional preparation programs and integrated (blended) programs of professional preparation for multiple and single subject credentials. AB 1307 covers you when the teacher preparation program requirements change due to the change in the credentialing requirements. For more information about AB 1307, click onto the CCTC website, http://www.ctc.ca.gov/.
