Talk to Strangers!
Monica Masino, SCTA State Council Representative, Argosy University
March 15, I attended the Los Angeles County Teacher Recruitment Fair in Norwalk. Many of the participants had either just graduated from their credential program or were laid off from their school districts. Interestingly enough, many participants had no idea that SCTA existed nor the benefits available to members.
Most explained that they were so busy with classes and student teaching that they didn’t have time to follow up with teacher preparation events not directly related to their program. But as they look back now, they really could have benefited from workshops, conferences and networking with other students. My thoughts to them were, if you now know the value of SCTA membership, share that with someone who is still a student.
Talk to those that are "strangers" to SCTA and spend time with those that are already involved. We all play a key role in the educational trek of other future educators whether we have just transferred from Community College or graduated with a bachelors degree. Inform your friends about the benefits of joining SCTA before they reach the end of their educational program. |
