It's That Time of Year Again...
By Casey Hansen - San Diego State University - Executive Vice President

Well it's that time of year again, time for finals, moving, and for some of us, graduating. It's also the time of year when SCTA memberships expire and some current leaders move on.

The 2001-02 membership year expires in August. If you haven't already renewed for next year, please do so by August. Members who joined on or after March 15, 2002 maintain their membership through the remainder of the current year as well as for next year, 2002-03. If you donít renew, you will lose out on the publications, the discounts, the conference opportunities and that million-dollar liability insurance. So please, everyone join again! Twenty-eight dollars is very little to ask to be part of such a great organization and the investment will bring oodles of experience to your lives and to your future teaching careers.

Local chapters are the bread and butter of this organization and are only as good as their previous leaders. As current SCTA members and as current local, state and national leaders you have an obligation to nurture future leaders. Before this school year ends make sure that there is new leadership for your local chapter--whether you, yourself are returning as a leader or stepping aside so new blood can take the reigns.

This organization is only as good as its members, so please continue to play an active role, because this is your organization, and the more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it!

MOVING SOON?
If you plan on moving at the end of the semester or quarter, let us know your new mailing address so you will continue to receive the JUNE and AUGUST issues of "I Choose to Teach!" Send changes to SCTA support staff, Annette Varela at avarela@cta.org or 650/552-5345.
