Position: Regional UniServ Staff – Regional Resource Center, Region 2

Unit Description and/or Conditions Unique to Assignment
This position will serve CTA chapters and members in Sutter and Nevada counties. The office currently houses one Regional UniServ RRC staff position, one Negotiation and Organizational Development specialist position, and one associate staff. The offices serve approximately 25 chapters located in 2 counties. The chapters range in size from 4 to 670. Performance expectations include all basic representation skills and to serve as the consultant to the Feather River Service Center Council. The person selected will be expected to know and utilize political and community organizing techniques.
Yuba City is located 45 miles north of the state capitol, Sacramento, and is 45 miles south of Chico. The Yuba City/Sutter County area serves as a center of commerce for about 40,000 residents. The general population of Chico contains about 60,000 residents. Chico and Yuba City contain affordable homes and the price of quality housing compares very favorably with the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay area markets. Each city has a nearby community college and a state university is located in Chico. Nearby hills, mountains, streams, lakes, and golf courses make the area very attractive to outdoor enthusiasts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility is to serve as organizer and consultant to CTA chapters in the development of chapter organization, chapter service programs, contract negotiations and contract maintenance.
Provide staff assistance and service as consultant to chapter leadership and to members in negotiations, grievances, organizational development and chapter communications.
Serve as consultant and staff resource to Unit's Board of Directors on current problems facing the education profession in California.
Represent the chapter in communicating Association policies and programs to lay and professional groups.
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or her designee.
Qualifications:
A BS/BA or higher degree.
Experience with and broad understanding of professional teacher organization programs and services at local, state and national levels.
Demonstrated leadership ability in working with professional groups.
Demonstrated organizing, negotiating and coordinating skills necessary to successfully complete complex group projects and activities.
Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and learn programs necessary to support chapter bargaining, organizing, and communications.
Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications.
Experience and commitment to team approaches, to service delivery, and willingness to share responsibility for chapter services with colleagues.
Broad understanding of the critical issues and problems facing the public schools and the teaching profession in California.

*This position is in a bargaining unit represented by CSO. Salaries are established by a collective bargaining agreement. Step placement is also determined by the CTA/CSO Agreement.
