Position:  Temporary Member Benefits Consultant - Risk Management/Member Benefits Department
Location:  Burlingame Headquarters (1705 Murchison Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010)
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates application of member life and disability insurance programs of the Association.
  • Conducts special projects as assigned.
  • Coordinates transition from one insurance provider to another as required.
  • Conducts analyses of insurance contracts and provides reports thereof.
  • Coordinates communication strategies with insurance carriers.
  • Plans and implements communication strategies regarding member benefits, including those resulting from transition to a new insurance carrier.
  • Reviews Summary Plan Descriptions for accuracy, deviations and effective communication style. 
  • Develops effective written materials and communication vehicles in support of member benefit programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts or higher degree in a Business or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information, identify issues, problems, and develop strategies/solutions as applied to insurance programs.
  • Demonstrated ability in effective written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated experience in the health and welfare field.
  • Demonstrated ability in insurance contract analyses.
  • Experience with SPDs, insurance plan documents and contracts.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws relating to health and welfare plans including ERISA.
  • CEBS designation preferred.
  • Ability to travel and work weekends as needed.
  • Valid California Drivers License.

*This position is in a bargaining unit represented by CSO. Salaries are established by a collective bargaining agreement.  Step placement is also determined by the CTA/CSO Agreement.
