Governmental Relations pixel_clr.gif : Legislative Department

The Governmental Relations Division, in Sacramento, is organized to have maximum teacher impact upon the political process. It is responsible for all laws and funding affecting California public schools and members. Headed by an associate executive director, the division provides for legislative advocacy and coordination of political action programs to achieve Association goals; political education for teachers to promote membership involvement in assessment and support of political candidates and positions; consultation regarding retirement benefits for teachers; and giving testimony in Senate and Assembly hearings.

Politics and Legislation or PAL is the CTA Legislative Relations Department's award-winning publication that provides readers with timely information about action on legislation affecting students and teachers in their classrooms. Written in Sacramento in the shadow of the state Capitol, PAL briefs CTA leaders on issues including the state budget for education and measures that relate to education excellence and reform, credentialing, teacher rights, school accountability, and other vital subjects. PAL is published weekly during the legislative session, with summary issues published at other key junctures. PAL's editor is Len Feldman (lfeldman@cta.org).

Note: Member contributions for California candidate campaign support are donated through the CTA/ABC Committee. Contributions for Congressional and Presidential candidate campaign support are donated through the National Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education.
