Council Decides June 2002

"Council Decides" is a two-page publication that summarizes the activities of each of the four State Council of Education meetings that is held each school year. CTA's State Council is the 770-member policy making representative assembly of the 330,000-member teachers association.

Despite the defeat of CTA's bill, AB 2160, CTA President Wayne Johnson vowed before State Council to continue moving CTA's education agenda.

Council Action
State Council recommended candidates for state office; took positions on ballot initiatives and approved the CTA budget for the coming year. The winners of the John Swett Awards for Media Excellence were also honored during a special luncheon.

State Council honors award recipients
Scores of members were recognized for their political involvement and the energy they've given to their Service Center Councils, chapters and to State Council. Among those honored were recipients of the Ted Bass Teacher in Politics Award and the Joyce Fadem Chapter in Politics Award.
